There’s this old saying: “Money talks and Bulls*** walks!”
A Pasay City court on Wednesday handed down its decision on the request of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo for bail in relation to the electoral sabotage charges against her. Arroyo, who has been detained at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) in Quezon City since December 2011, was allowed to post P1 million bail.
Court Sheriff Rodelio Buenviaje delivered at VMMC a six-page omnibus order signed by Judge Jesus Mupas, who handles the electoral sabotage case against Arroyo, former Maguindanao Gov. Andal Ampatuan Sr., and former Maguindanao elections supervisor Lintang Bedol.
Judge Jesus Mupas granted Arroyo’s motion for bail after the prosecution allegedly failed to prove that she conspired to commit electoral sabotage during the May 2007 election.
Mupas, however, denied the motion for bail of former Maguindanao Election Supervisor Lintang Bedol and former Maguindanao Governor Andal Ampatuan Sr.
However, Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said Arroyo still faces charges of plunder, a non-bailable offense, for irregularities at the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
“May hold departure order sa plunder, there’s another case pending, let’s wait and see. Kung plunder yan, non-bailable ‘yan,” Lacierda said.
On the other hand, Ferdinand Topacio, one of the lawyers of Arroyo, said there is no arrest warrant yet for Arroyo for the plunder case. He said the separate plunder case recently lodged against Arroyo over irregularities at the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office would not bar her from leaving the hospital.
Comments from the public:
“Justice Paid, Justice Denied!”
Ano ba yan!! Electoral sabotage, may BAIL??
Pasay Court staff now counting the P1M bail paid by the Arroyo camp in cash. Atty. Benjamin Santos, one of the lawyers of Arroyo, says there are plans to go directly to La Vista, Quezon City after released from VMMC hospital arrest.
Militant groups, pro-Arroyo “volunteers” converge with a festive mood at the VMMC.
Arroyo officially released. Everyone singing ” Please release me, let me go…”
“Parang hindi pa rin kami makapaniwala. Naluluha kami.” – Luli Arroyo, daughter of Arroyo. Luli says grant of bail shows rule of law still prevails as well as rules on evidence. They plan to bring their mother to an alternative treatment facility but will also continue her therapy at the VMMC.
